AICPA asks House members to support bill requiring Comptroller General be a CPA
On Monday, Feb. 22, AICPA President and CEO Barry C. Melancon, CPA, and AICPA Chairman of the Board Robert R. Harris, CPA/CFF, sent a letter to members of the House of Representatives urging them to support H.R. 4410, which would require that the Government Accountability Office’s Comptroller General be a licensed CPA. The AICPA believes that the training, discipline, commitment to objectivity and integrity that define a CPA, and the public confidence that the credential instills, will further solidify the GAO’s reputation for impartial, thoughtful analysis and help guarantee that the agency will fulfill its mission to ensure the accountability of the federal government. The bill was introduced on Dec. 18, 2009.
